Unique Colouring In Alternatives
The thing I love most about running Play Timeout is that it opens up my imagination and keeps me on my toes. Discovering unique and design-inspired board games, card games, and colouring books has helped inspire my creativity, even through difficult times. But most of all, it has allowed me to explore my interests and try something new.
After all, age really is just a number, and we all deserve to have fun.
Something I have been playing around with a lot lately, is colouring in, but not the traditional type with colouring pencils that we are all used to. Rather, I have found an interest in throwing the colouring pencils aside and using alternative colouring techniques.
Some of my favourites so far include:
Using Magazine Clippings
Have you ever seen a nice textured dress in a vogue magazine? Or perhaps you've discovered a cute floral pattern that you absolutely adore in a gardening magazine. Instead of sending them to the bin or the bookshelf when you've finished reading them, consider saving the pages for later.
That way, when you happen upon a colouring page, you can cut around these prints and turn them into a brand new work of art.
More than just a way to preserve your favourite art pieces, this is a fantastic way to recycle some paper waste.
Playing Around With Washi Tape
Washi tape is so fun, creative and gorgeous! While some of it can be quite expensive, you can pick up some cheap rolls online to play around with. I love using this tape to colour in simple pictures, such as ocean scenes or images of my favourite foods.
The graphics on the tape can add so much depth to your picture and completely change the way it looks. If you don't want to tape your entire colouring book, you can use the washi tape on the feature of the image and leave the rest to the colouring in pencils.
Having fun with texture
As a designer, I love the way things feel. So, bringing my favourite colouring pages to life with fabric, silk, cotton balls, and pipe cleaners brings me so much joy. I love adding cellophane and tissue paper to various elements of my colouring page to add an extra level of depth.
But, what I love most about adding texture is how much it pushes me to think outside of the box and get creative. When complete, these pieces look so gorgeous that they almost always earn a spot on my fridge.
At Play Timeout I believe that our age doesn't define the fun we can have. I stock a wide range of games and puzzles for people of all ages and skill levels to enjoy. Plus, I am always searching the globe for more stock, so make sure you keep your eyes open for more creative activities.
