Higher Quality = More Vibrancy 

While many of us may think that the harder we press, the better the pencil will work, it's quite the opposite. A high-quality set of pencils will require little to no pressure at all to display a deep, rich colour. 

While you may not seek a top-of-the-range set of pencils just to colour a colouring book, you can spend a few extra dollars to avoid damaging your pages due to the extreme pressure you may need to exert to develop a dark, highly visible colour.

A smooth, gliding texture 

If you think back to the times you would head to dinner with your parents and receive half-chewed pencils and scrap paper to draw on by the staff, you may remember how difficult the pencils were to control. 

Characterised by a rough, stiff texture, lower quality pencils are known to require some extra elbow grease when being used, which can quickly tire out your fingers. Using high-quality materials, more expensive pencils will typically glide much smoother when held and can be more easily controlled by simple movements in your wrist. 

But remember, it comes down to your skills as an artist and won't immediately feel naturally smoother if moved incorrectly.
