Have a puzzle to-do pile? Here's how to choose which puzzle to complete next
If you're a puzzle lover like me, chances are you are receiving jigsaw upon jigsaw for your birthday and Christmas. As much as I love receiving them, they do begin to pile up, especially when life and work get in the way, meaning I usually have more puzzles to complete than I can count on two hands.
So, when there are so many different pictures and pretty scenes to choose from, how do I decide which one I want to turn into art?
Here are just some of the ways I pick out my next puzzle so I can spend less time mulling over the pros and cons and more time flipping pieces over.
Base it on the season
Though it sounds a little bit silly, at Play Timeout, I am all about being wacky and letting my quirks come to life. Just like people change their home décor and the posters in their home to suit the seasons, I like to complete summery puzzles during the summer and wintery ones during the colder months.
Now, I know what you're thinking, puzzles include so much more imagery than just summer, autumn, winter and spring. When my puzzle collection doesn't have a specific seasonal theme, I try and match the colours or tones to the weather's mood. Darker colours usually suit gloomy days, whereas brighter ones always make a warm day even more joyful.
I let my family choose for me
When the decision is causing me to scratch my head, I love getting my younger family members involved. Not only do they enjoy helping me put the puzzle together, but they also love seeing the finished work once it's complete.
It always gives me the motivation to push on and put all the pieces together before they pay their next visit. After all, I can resist their bright smiles and utter awe when they see the puzzle complete for the first time.
Rolling a dice
Sometimes, letting the fate take the wheel is the best way to live. If you have a 10, 12 or 20-sided die at home, you can always associate all of your puzzles with an individual number. Whichever one the dice lands on is the one you are destined to complete.
More than just being great for puzzles, you can also use this strategy to determine which board game or card game to play, especially on a game night where nobody can make up their mind.
If you are fond of collecting unique, design inspired puzzles, I have a wide range that you can find online in my store. More than just puzzles, I have a selection of party games that you can enjoy with your family and friends.
